Mauro Staccioli

Mauro Staccioli

Is for a long time an international renown artist but, never mind, a lot of people here did not now his name since a lady motorist crashed into the sculpture he had build on the Avenue de la Foresterie. I think this is quite disturbing, isn’t it ?

Born in Volterra in 1937, he lives in Milan, the city of all bold creation of art. He was twice honoured during thee famous biennial of Venice (in 1976 and 1978) but also in Gubbio, at the Olympic Park of Seoul; Andorra’s symposium…and many other places before he came to Belgium to the European Foundation for sculpture in the Tournay-Solvay Park in 1996.

The geometric form of a triangle hanging under the trees underlines a kind of visual poetry made of geometrical lines and nature. It is close to abstract art and at the same time in total relation to the famous “arte povera”

Mauro Staccioli came back to Brussels in 1998 to build the famous sculpture at the Rond-Point de l’Europe in Boitsfort and another piece came in 2003 in Forest but for people in general the only significant thing was the famous square in the forest at Boitsfort.

The exhibition at the gallery Artiscope shows various drawings of this sculptor who never made a classic “statue” for anybody but investigates into the various lines possible in sculpture to-day. Minister Pascal Smet wrote recently that everything is going on to re-make and re-install the famous Equilibro sospeso exactly were it was before in the forest.

This identical sculpture is expected at the end of summer, let us hope it will be because its presence is very important for motorists passing by to remember the living presence of Europe in our city.
